The Rise and Fall of the Stickman Fight Games

Remember the early 2010s, when the simple Stickman fighting figures became the star of the YouTube animation trend? The simple yet fun creative games like “Naruto Stickmen Fight” and “Goku vs. Naruto Stickmen Fight” exploded in popularity. This famous trend give birth to the “Stick Fight: The Game.”

From YouTube Trend to Video Game:

Five years later, in December 2015, Netcode Studios realised the potential of this stickman fight animation craze. From there, they turned this into a game, and the Stickman animations made a huge comeback with the release of “Stick Fight: The Game.” This craze took off with epic battles, massive weapons, lasers, machine guns, and superpowers.

The first stickman game I played was “Super Action Hero.” It had no clear objective but was immensely fun. You battled waves of enemies in mission-style, platform-based gameplay. Collectible masks granted special powers, and you could battle global players on mostly dead servers now. It’s nostalgic to see another stickman game, “Stick Fight: The Game,” reigniting this concept.

Stick Fight: The Game Review

I’ve only played “Stick Fight: The Game” a couple of times on my friend’s computer, but it’s fantastic. This physics-based couch/online fighting game allows you to battle it out as iconic stick figures from the golden age of the internet. The game can be played by 2 to 4 people, either online or through local multiplayer, but there’s no single-player mode. So, if you don’t have friends, you’ll need to find random players online, which isn’t as fun as playing with friends.

Gameplay Mechanics and Features

The game was running on a simple physics engine somewhat like Newton2 available on After Effect. This game is full of a wide range of weapons, stages, and surprises. The initial stages were mostly full of greenery and trees. While the later stages were picked randomly. Some of the stages were set like balancing scales. these balancing scales created a topple movement.

Surprisingly, the game had “80 highly interactive levels” and “lots of weapons!” These weapons included pistols, shotguns, snakeguns, railguns, lasers, knives, grenades, alien tech, and much more. Each of the 80 levels offered a unique challenge that induced an adrenaline rush, making the game more entertaining and engrossing.

With just a few keys, the game can be controlled. Yet the gameplay experience became so visually pleasing that only jumpy, explosive animations were enough to stick the players to the game.

Development of “Stick Fight: The Game”

In 2016, it was launched for PC, and in 2017 developers released a level editor. From then the players were allowed to create their own battlegrounds. This added a level of creativity. Now the players could craft everything with their personalisation from extensive dead trap to true pop culture scene recreation.

At later stages, the Perfect Flying, Climb Dash, etc were created in an attempt to add depth to the game. However, The legendary era of simple stickman fight game came to an end in 2023.
